Get Your Questions Answered

You may have a few questions you want answered about Westminster and how things work here. Here are some basics—contact us with other questions you have or to talk with a minister

Getting Here

Where are you located? We hold worship services at two campuses in Greensboro. Our Friendly Avenue Campus is at 3906 W. Friendly Avenue, and the Lake Brandt Campus is at 4747 Lake Brandt Road. Our administrative offices are located at the Friendly Avenue Campus and most classes and fellowship opportunities take place there.

What time are services held? See service times and locations

How should I dress? People tend to wear what they’re most comfortable in—from a suit/tie or a dress to more casual attire. We encourage you to be yourself, so wear whatever you’re comfortable wearing (and if you want to see some photos of participants at our services, check out our Flickr account.)

How early should I arrive? You are welcome to join us for gathering music, which begins ten minutes prior to each service. If you’re running a few minutes late, you’re still welcome to join us.

Where do I park? At the Friendly Avenue Campus, visitor parking is available behind the church or in front of the church. At the Lake Brandt Campus, parking is available in the back and along the side of the church.

Are your facilities accessible to everyone? Yes. The Friendly Avenue Campus has ample handicapped parking in the front, at the side of, and directly behind the church. You may take an elevator located on the ground floor that will take you to the upper floor. Hearing devices are available in the narthex (the entrance way/lobby) before you walk into the Chapel or Sanctuary. The Lake Brandt Campus is accessible with plenty of room for wheelchairs and ramps.

I'm out of my car. Now where do I go? At the Friendly Avenue Campus, most people park in the back and enter through the back double doors under the covered area. This is "church central" and a greeter will be there to help you in any way. Take the stairs or elevator to the upper floor to get to the Sanctuary or Chapel. Have children? Check out our children's programs.

At the Lake Brandt Campus, enter through the doors located at the back of the church. The sanctuary is straight ahead.

Where is the Sanctuary and where is the Chapel? If you’re at the Friendly Avenue Campus looking at the church with your back to West Friendly Avenue, the Sanctuary has the huge window, and the building to your right is the Chapel. The Sanctuary at the Lake Brandt Campus is through the doors in the back entrance; continue walking straight ahead and you’re there.

Programs for Children (newborns – 5th grade)

What are my child’s options during services? At the Friendly Avenue Campus, children are welcome to attend the entire service with their parents, to go to the nursery(age 2 and under) or to stay in worship through the Welcoming the Children time and then go to the nursery or Church School. The first Sunday of each month is Communion Sunday in all services and families worship together with childcare available for birth through Pre K.

At the Lake Brandt Campus, children age three through 5th grade attend service with their families. After the Children’s Time they can choose to stay in the service or go to Children’s Church.

Is there a nursery available for babies and toddlers during services? Nursery rooms are available in both locations for children up to two years old. There are caregivers and volunteers that will be more than happy to read Bible stories, rock and play with your children while you are here.

Where is the nursery located? At the Friendly Avenue Campus, the nursery is located on the ground floor. Services are held on the upper level. At Lake Brandt, the nursery is located down the hall to the right of the sanctuary.

Do you offer Church School for young children? We have Church school classes for children 5th grade and younger at all  services at both campuses.

Where do I drop my children off for Church School? Church School starts after the Welcoming the Children time in worship is complete. Newcomers are welcome to visit the Church School classrooms prior to worship. At the Friendly Avenue Campus, Church School classes are located on the lower floor. Each room is marked with the children's ages or grade level. Children attend the worship service with their families and then may choose to go downstairs after Welcoming the Children time for their age-appropriate Church School Class or return to their seats in worship.

At the Lake Brandt Campus, children aged three through 5th grade come to the worship service with their families and are led to their classrooms following the Welcoming the Children time. All children are welcome to attend the entire service.

Can I bring my child/children into the service with me? Absolutely! Children are welcome in all worship services.

What are the differences between your services? We invite you to explore the services we offer and see which one is right for you. Learn more about each type of service.

How can you have two services going on at the same time and in different parts of the city? We have several ministers so there is a minister leading worship and preaching in each service. Additionally we have two worship bands, so the contemporary services that occur simultaneously each have excellent musical offerings. Our Chancel Choir offers musical leadership in the traditional service.

Do you offer music at your services? Music is an integral part of our worship and ministry, and we offer ways for everyone to be involved. Learn more here

Do you have fellowship time after service? At Friendly, we meet in the Fellowship Hall (on the first floor) after services for refreshments, and we’d love to see you there! It’s a great time to meet people, share some stories, get questions answered and continue the conversation from the service. At the Lake Brandt, join us at the back of the sanctuary for coffee, donuts and conversation.

Serving in Our Community

What kinds of service opportunities are available for my family through Westminster? We believe that each person has special gifts to offer, which is why service and outreach are so important to our church community. We offer numerous opportunities to serve—within the church, in the local community, in the U.S. and in the world—and we encourage everyone to get involved. We also have a lot of fun along the way! Learn more about opportunities and how you can get involved

Joining Westminster

How do you join Westminster? We host a gathering for new members following each worship service in the Conference Room (the first room on the left in the upstairs hallway at the Friendly Avenue campus) and at the Connecting Point at the Lake Brandt Campus following the Sunday, 9:30 a.m. service. We will welcome you and have Elders on hand to provide you information about the many different activities at the church or to answer questions. Any transfer of membership from another church will be handled by the church office following this meeting.

Do I have to join to participate? Everyone who finds a spiritual home at Westminster is encouraged to join, but it is not mandatory. All are welcome to participate in any of the services, and activities/classes we offer without becoming a member. We encourage you to explore and grow in your faith with us!

Am I expected to contribute financially to the church? We encourage our congregation to give generously in various ways—through time, talent and financial resources. We have an annual Stewardship campaign where the congregation makes their financial pledges to support the ministries and missions that make a difference in our community and the world.
