From the Transition Team - July

With great joy, the Transition Team is excited to announce that after months of preparation, candidate interviews, and prayerful discernment, we feel that God has led us to call Steve Schaick to guide us through this period of transition and growth at Westminster.  The Transition Team focused on six key dimensions of discernment: Church & Spiritual Leadership, Pastoral Care & Support, Transitional Pastor Experience, Administration & Finance Experience, Worship Planning, Faith Journey, and Statement of Faith. We were blessed with multiple strong candidates for consideration and are grateful for each candidate's wisdom and gifts.

Steve is an ordained Presbyterian minister who retired in 2021 from the United States Air Force as a Major General and the 19th Chief of Chaplains. Originally from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Steve enlisted in the USAF to earn college money and stayed 42 years. Married to his college sweetheart, he and Denise have been married for 41 years and have two married children and four (above average) grandchildren. Steve is a graduate of McCormick Theological Seminary (M-Div) and Fuller Theological Seminary (D-Min) and serves on the Board of Directors for the Air & Space Forces Association as well as on the Board of Directors of Chatham Habitat for Humanity. He recently concluded an 18-month term as the Interim Senior Pastor of the Kirk of Kildaire, Cary, NC. Steve and Denise love spoiling grandkids, biking, golfing, and walking. They live in Chapel Hill, NC.

Steve and Denise will join us on Sunday, August 25 for worship and the Westminster Olympics event where you will have an opportunity to meet and greet them both.

The Transition Team appreciates your prayers and support during this time. We will take a brief pause for Steve to settle in and then with Steve’s support begin the next phase of the transition process – to engage the congregation in the development of a Mission Study. Once the Mission Study is completed, the Pastor Nominating Committee will be formed and begin the process of searching for our next Installed Senior Pastor.

With blessings and gratitude,

Janet Hurd, Gary Cram, Bert Andia, Stephanie Keaney, Melanie Woodard, Larry Hooker, Derek Gracey
