"I've never liked change."

We welcome Caroline Sell back to our pulpit this week after her move to Asheville with her husband, Nate, and daughters Allie and Abigail. Welcome Home!

Friends,

I'm beyond excited for the opportunity to return to Westminster this Sunday for worship and fellowship. It's hard to believe we've been in Asheville for three years! It feels like just yesterday that I was with you day in and day out. We are grateful to God for the many ways that Asheville has become home to us, but Westminster continues to be on my heart and mind regularly. What a treat to be with you in person soon!

One memory of my time at Westminster has surfaced in the last few weeks as I have prepared to be with you. I won't name the group that I was teaching one day, (a few hints - it's a group of women, they meet once a month, typically on Wednesday mornings, and they sit in a circle). I tossed out a question, "As you get older, does change get easier?" I was anticipating their response, but I wasn't anticipating how passionately they'd share it: "NO!" nearly every woman shouted in unison. We all laughed, and I probed the group a bit further. "Why is that?" They shared responses like, "We get set in our ways," "We're tired!" or "We just know how we like it to be!"

This conversation has always stuck with me. I've never liked change, it's rarely something that I have thrust upon myself. That said, I have always anticipated that it would get easier to move through with wisdom and experience. The consensus, it seems, is that this may not typically be the case.

On Sunday we'll explore a Scripture passage that many of you have heard before, the story in which Jesus feeds a huge crowd with just a few fish and a bit of bread. I wonder if stories like this can offer us courage and peace during turbulent times and seasons of change. What do you think? I hope you can join on Sunday as we explore, dream, and wonder together!

Eeeeek... I'm bursting with excitement! See you soon!

God's peace,

Caroline
