December 9
Surely your goodness and love will follow meall the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lordforever.
Psalm 23:6
When we consider the wonders of this season, when we allow our mind to wander and our heart to expand, there are so many things that catch our breath! And I would suggest that Psalm 23, especially verse 6, points to the greatest: it’s the steady, sure, grace-filled presence of God who is with us always, providing us with all we need… we shall not want.
One Christmas eve that came home to me as I stood at the window with my Mother watching flakes of snow gently melt into the dark night. So beautiful, as we in silence sensed the wonder of God’s world. But then I looked at Mom and saw the tears; she’d gone back to a snowy Christmas eve 20+ years earlier when she lost her own Mom. It was a tender time that drew us into a sacred space of grief, yes, but a deep assurance that God’s goodness and love surely do follow us all the days of our lives and forever.
When we taste God’s goodness, we shall not want. There’s a song by Audrey Assad on YouTube by that name: “I Shall Not Want.” * Perhaps listening to this lyrical song will remind you that you dwell in God’s wondrous presence now and forever.
This spoke to my heart deeply. Thank you.
