One of the best things about being a part of a community is building, nurturing and just being in relationship with others. Our Westminster faith community holds that as a high priority, seeking to be in the right relationship with folks in our congregation and foster meaningful connections beyond these walls.
A big part of that is being a good neighbor. Last spring our mission fundraiser brought in over $110,000 that we’ve already put to work lifting up local families in need, saying ‘yes’ to new friendships with people all over Greensboro, and even coming alongside underserved areas in New York City, the Dominican Republic, in the hollows of West Virginia, and especially in the western part of NC. The generosity of our members and visitors also allows us to continue to widen the reach of our arms in the coming months, including right here on the corner of Westminster Dr. & Friendly Ave.
Another way we’ve lived into that call to community and being good neighbors is through our use of our buildings and grounds. Several groups meet in our building every week, and our outdoor spaces regularly play host to pick up basketball, soccer practice, bike riding, and skateboarding. Two of our biggest outdoor outreach ministries though are our Summertime Sounds series and our thriving pickleball group.
This last year we received a very generous gift to enhance our outdoor space for our congregation and community. After many questions and conversations, our Buildings and Grounds team, guided by Pastor Ernie, determined that a stage in the Talent Field and improved and dedicated sports courts in the back lot would fit the bill. The hope is that both projects will generate greater opportunities for worship, play, and further community engagement.
As we head into stewardship season and anticipate these new developments in the coming months, let us give thanks for all the ways we can Celebrate Generosity.
